Training Day
Mar 25, 2011
The old adage goes that the best way to train for surfing is by surfing. Not true. In 21st century sports science there are a multitude of ways the modern professional surfer can enhance their performance. Hardcore, sand-spitting physical training regiments are one way, but there’s also a mental side to the sport, and thanks to computer analysis, a technical side that’s very much worth investigating. In this episode we go inside the gym—and the classroom—to see what surfers like Mick Fanning, Michel Bourez and Sally Fitzgibbons are doing to keep themselves fit. Today’s ASP World Tour competitors are not just surfers, they’re finely tune athletes.
